1984

We're reading 1984! This is the place to post themes and main ideas from the book that you notice. A big one that I'm seeing so far is conformity vs. nonconformity. In this society nonconformity is practically fatal because the Thought Police will catch you and "vaporize" you. And not being afraid to stand up and do your own thing is pretty big too. So far it has parallel themes to the other books, and that makes our project even easier!

Hey! I think that one of the main themes of the book is the increase of left brain thinking and the decrease of right brain thinking. Conformity in this book involves following orders without question, something that a computer could do. Winston is experiencing right brain thinking by challenging the system.

That's another theme! Challenging the system. It can be found in AWNM by leaving strong left-brain jobs and taking right brain jobs. It can also be found in 1984 by Winston standing up to Big Brother.

Maddief that is awesome about the right vs. left-brain thinking. I hadn't even thought of that. And it connects to AWNM, so it's perfect!
